It's the turn of the century, and suffragette Emily Graham has no time in her life for a man. But her aunts have other ideas in mind and try to find her a husband among the guests of Iowa's Lake Manawa resort. Carter Stockton, the Manawa Owls' baseball pitcher and recent college graduate, is determined to eke all the fun he can out of the summer before being forced into his father's business. Neither Emily nor Carter has romance on the mind. Will they give up their dreams for a chance at love, or will they discover that maybe, just maybe, you can have both? VERDICT A breezy writing style and likable characters make Seilstad's latest series entry (after Making Waves) a sure bet for fans of Mary Balogh.

Emily is 22; Carter is a year older. She is klutzy, studious, and committed to suffrage, while he is a popular, talented pitcher for the Manawa Owls. The two wealthy and influential families of Council Bluffs, Iowa, dont get along, but when Emily collides with Carter at the Lake Manawa summer resorts roller-skating rink, their renewed friendship may be the answer to her prayers. As president of the local womens suffrage association, shes been trying to find a way to promote their cause. When she learns that the Bloomer Girls baseball team is touring the country, she inveigles Carter and his team into an exhibition game. Beyond their superficial differences, however, looms the issue of faith: Emily fills her days with activity in an effort to prove herself, and has drifted away from God, while Carter tries to put Him first. Set a few years after the events of Making Waves (2010) and portraying the same set of friends, Seilstads impressive second effort is a beguiling inspirational summer romance.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
