Emmy, their rapidly growing dragon, has become a real grouch, saying she's missing "something," and the cousins don't have a clue what that something is. Jesse and Daisy go online to ask Professor Andersson, their favorite dragon expert, for help and end up seeing him being kidnapped!
The kidnapper is none other than Sadie Huffington, the girlfriend of their enemy, St. George the Dragon Slayer. She has hatched a wicked scheme to use the professor to both find St. George and capture Emmy. Now the dragon keepers and their dragon must storm Sadie's castle and rescue the professor from the witch and her pack of vicious dog-men!
In this third fantasy book in the Dragon Keepers series, Kate Klimo introduces readers to a magical library filled with shelf elves and reveals the secrets of the gigantic red book that Jesse and Daisy discovered in The Dragon in the Sock Drawer. She keeps the action and adventure flying while bringing both heart and imagination to this tale of two kids and a dragon, growing up together.
The Dragon Keepers series is perfect for kids who crave books about dragons and magic but are caught betwixt and between—too old for Magic Tree House and not yet ready for Eragon and the Inheritance cycle.

Gr 4-6-This installment has cousins Jesse and Daisy struggling to manage Emmy the dragon's mood swings. At the same time, their adviser and confidant, Professor Andersson, is being held captive by sadistic Sadie Huffington, St. George the Dragon Slayer's girlfriend. She plans to capture Emmy in order to extract information about George's whereabouts. As the children seek to rescue Professor Andersson while staying a half-step ahead of Ms. Huffington, Emmy finally sprouts her wings, enabling the children to fly on her back-a flight of fancy no child could resist. The book is chock-full of interesting words and phrases that may intimidate some readers and delight others, such as "scriptorium," "harridan," "vermilion," and "fraught with emotional resonance," and the reading level seems a bit uneven. However, if your readers latched onto the first two volumes in this series, they won't be disappointed with the continuing quests and adventures of this dynamic trio.-Maggie Chase, Boise State University, ID

Grades 4-6 In the third Dragon Keepers title, talking dragon Emmy has grown up and become an avid reader and, lately, grumpy, something neither she nor her protectors, 11-year-old cousins Jesse and Daisy, understand. Then a magical book goes missing, as do dogs from the pound; events seemingly coincide with the arrival of a TV dog trainer, Sadie Huffington. When an online dragon consultant also disappears, Jesse and Daisy investigate and discover that Emmy is in danger. Incorporating suspense, magic, and humor, the trios continuing adventures will surely entertain series readers.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2010, American Library Association.) -

In their third book, Jesse, Daisy, and dragon Emmy must save the professor from St. George's wicked girlfriend. Imaginative descriptions of the Scriptorium (a dragon library) and Uffington Castle, as well as a growing cast of characters, will keep young readers engaged in the expanding magical realm. The story progresses at a good pace and includes some nods to children's classics.(Copyright 2010 by The Horn Book, Incorporated, Boston. All rights reserved.)
